Though thunder and lightning are rare during the winter months it does occur. The last couple of nights folks living in Nelson and nearby have experienced lightning and thunder during snow, sleet and freezing rain. Wednesday night people were surprised to hear a loud boom. Some thinking it was an explosion. Actually, it was thunder after a large lightning strike in Stoney Creek of Nellysford.
