RT. 250 EAST IN ALBEMARLE CLOSED TO THROUGH TRAFFIC

Recent flooding washes out storm water pipe, motorists should use I-64 as detour route

CULPEPER — Route 250 (Richmond Road) is closed just east of Route 744 (Hacktown Road) after the recent heavy rains and flooding compromised the road above a pipe that carries Carroll Creek under the road. The road is expected remain closed to through traffic between Route 744 and Route 616 (Black Cat Road) for between 36 and 72 hours while the pipe is dug out and replaced.

During the emergency closure motorists should use Interstate 64 between Route 616 at exit 129 and Route 250 at exit 124 as a detour route. Business and residential entrances on both sides of the work zone will remain open. Detour signs are posted on I-64 and Route 250.

Crews will work around the clock to replace the pipe and rebuild the roadway above the pipe, but motorists, especially commuters, should anticipate Route 250 to be closed at Carroll Creek at least through Friday.

Drivers should check www.511virginia.org or the 511 mobile app for updated information about the road closures and follow @VaDOTCULP on Twitter for updates.
