Wild Wolf Brewing Company announced they were presented the Virginia Green Travel Alliance’s Travel Star Award for Green Brewery of the Year, February 17th, at their annual conference. The Virginia Green Travel Alliance, an organization that connects the public with green businesses in the tourism industry, presents outstanding members with annual Travel Star Awards across ten business categories.
“We are proud to be Virginia Green’s Brewery of the Year,” says owner, Mary Wolf. “Environmental consciousness is a primary goal of our business mission statement. Our comprehensive environmental program encompasses every aspect of our business; from our offices, to our brew house, to our restaurant. We take environmental consciousness seriously and continue to build upon our processes every day.”
Recycling, composting, as well as water and energy conservation are among Wild Wolf Brewing Company’s many focal areas throughout the business. In the brewery cans are utilized for packaging rather than bottles, due to the fact that cans are made from 90% recycled materials, weigh less than bottles – thus saving fuel, and also require less cardboard packaging material.
The spent grain from the brewing process becomes cattle feed at a local beef farm which then become delicious Wild Wolf burgers. Local ingredients, including this local beef, are a key feature of the restaurant’s sustainability plan, which also involves energy efficient kitchen appliances and equipment, low flow faucets, and strict limitations on the use of disposable products.
“Our environmental policy shapes every aspect of our brewery and restaurant, as well as our plans for the future,” says Wolf.
