With the winds howling and temps dropping like a rock the snow fans at Wintergreen Resort have kicked in and snowmaking has started.

By early Saturday evening temps had already dropped into the upper 20s at Wintergreen with wind gusts of just over 70 MPH recorded.

While the slopes are a very long way from being ready, this was the official first step.

If conditions work in their favor, Wintergreen could open the slopes in the not too distant future.
