“Davis Creek suffered mightily during Hurricane Camille in 1969. Fifty-two people died on the creek, mostly from landslides caused by the more than 27 inches of rain that fell in a five hour period. The Historical Society’s annual commemoration on Camille will be held on Saturday, Aug. 20 beginning at 2 p.m. at Nelson United Methodist Church. It will focus on the Davis Creek community with speakers who lived through it and photos of the people who lost their lives as well as the damage caused by Camille.”
