An investigation into questions surrounding the residency requirements of Lt. Billy Mays a detective with the Nelson County Sheriff’s Department and Sheriff Elect David Hill, came to a head Tuesday when a grand jury indicted Lt. Mays for election fraud. And, investigators with the Virginia State Police have cleared Sheriff Elect David Hill of any questions meeting the correct residency requirements during his election.
“I’m obviously saddened to hear what’s happened with Billy, and it goes to show we are not exempt. I provided the information to VSP, people deserve the truth. There’s your transparency. I represent the people. I invited people to come see where I lived, and I met the requirements, as VSP found,” Sheriff Elect Hill told BRL late Tuesday afternoon.
BRL has reached out to Lt. Mays are we are awaiting a formal response soon.
