By a span of 195 votes, David W. Hill captured the sheriff’s race in Nelson County on Tuesday evening – November 3rd. His closest competetor, Vasco Wright came in with 1899 votes vs the 2094 Hill received.
The current sheriff, David Brooks, is finishing up his second term and announced earlier this year that he would be retiring on December 31, 2015.
In other Nelson elections, the incumbent treasurer, Angi Johnson retained her seat easily winning with over 80% of the vote against her opponent, Betty Phillips.
In another closely watched race, Larry Saunders serving on the Nelson Board of Supervisors in the south district retained his seat. He was being opposed by Trina Murphy. Saunders won 534 to 350.
In spite of the numbers, they must be certified and made official before any of the races are considered final.
