Discover one of Virginia’s best kept secrets as you canoe, kayak or tube down a 2, 6 or 8 mile stretch of the historic James River. JRSP offers rentals of canoes, kayaks and tubes.
Hike, Mountain Bike, Trail Run or ride your horse on the park’s 15 miles of maintained trails.
JRSP offers Geocaching with several caches within the park. You can even rent a GPS at the Visitor’s Center. Will you find the “Nearly Out of Bounds” or the “Two Dogs” cache?
Family fun also includes a custom-made Kid’s Adventure Center. This outdoor, natural play center is currently under renovation, but is slated to re-open by July 17th. BRL visited the Kid’s Adventure Center last week the center is very creative—guaranteed to get your kids away from the digital world and introduce them to some natural fun. Another educational spot is the Visitor’s Center. Learn about the river and about the wildlife living in the park.
Plus, Blue Ridge Life will also be posting LIVE during the Adventures on the James Games’ second race of 2015. This race is a scavenger hunt with challenges for the runner/walker and the mountain biker. Strategy will play a major role in determining the winners. For the usual 5K and 10K racers, this will be a great challenge with a little twist. Plus, Devils Backbone Brewing Company will be kicking off the weekend on Friday night and also providing some fun for the post-race after party. Rockfish Gap Outfitters, sponsor of the BRLM’s Embrace the Adventure Column, has added prizes to the weekend. We are sure that there will be some surprise swag at the Registration area on Saturday morning.
Check out some of the photos above from our last event a few weeks ago at JRSP!
Blue Ridge Life Magazine’s Embrace the Adventure Column writer, Woody Elliott, is the race day coordinator. If you follow Woody’s monthly column, then you know that this is going to be an interesting 4 hours of adventure.
BRLM recently visited “Ranger Bill” Crawford in the park. Bill filled us in on all the plans for the Adventure on the James weekend. Activities are planned for racers as well as non-racers. The weekend kicks off with a cook-out by the James River. The public is invited to kick off the weekend with us….including a Corn Hole Tournament. Are you ready to join the adventure? Get signed up and meet “Ranger Bill” by reading his blog post about the 2nd Adventure on the James race here: http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/blog/adventures-on-the-james-games-continue
