POTOMAC HIGHLANDS AND THE CENTRAL SHENANDOAH VALLEY.

* HAZARD TYPES…SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN.

* ACCUMULATIONS…A COATING OF SNOW AND SLEET. ICE ACCUMULATION
AROUND ONE TENTH OF AN INCH.

* TIMING…SLEET WILL CHANGE TO ALL FREEZING RAIN BY NOON. THE
MOST ICE ACCRETION FROM FREEZING RAIN IS EXPECTED THIS
AFTERNOON. PRECIPITATION WILL END BY THIS EVENING.

* IMPACTS…ROADS WILL BE SNOW AND ICE COVERED INTO TONIGHT.
TRAVELLING WILL BE DANGEROUS DURING THIS TIME.

* WINDS…SOUTH AROUND 5 TO 10 MPH WITH GUSTS AROUND 15 TO 20
MPH ALONG THE RIDGES ABOVE 2000 FEET.

* TEMPERATURES…RISING INTO THE LOWER AND MIDDLE 30S THIS

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has cancelled the
Winter Weather Advisory.

Temperatures have warmed to or above freezing levels in most
locations. The threat for widespread freezing rain and sleet
has ended. Pockets of light rain and drizzle may be possible
this evening into tonight. Drivers should prepare for slippery
Road and icy spots…and use caution while driving.

…WINTRY MIX POSSIBLE INTO THIS AFTERNOON…

.HIGH PRESSURE WILL REMAIN WEDGED SOUTH ALONG THE EASTERN SLOPES
OF THE APPALACHIANS TODAY HELPING TO MAINTAIN COLD AIR INTO THIS
AFTERNOON. AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE WILL COMBINE WITH MOISTURE
FLOWING NORTH FROM THE CAROLINAS TO RESULT IN A WINTRY MIXTURE OF
PRECIPITATION CONTINUING INTO EARLY THIS AFTERNOON. LIGHT
ACCUMULATIONS OF SNOW…SLEET…AND FREEZING RAIN ARE ALL POSSIBLE
AS THE MOISTURE INTERACTS WITH THE COLDER AIR OVER THE AREA.

* ACCUMULATIONS…SLEET ACCUMULATION OF LESS THAN ONE INCH.
AROUND ONE TENTH OF AN INCH OF ICE LIKELY WITH LOCALLY HIGHER
TOTALS IN STRIPS. THE HIGHEST AMOUNTS OF ICING WILL OCCUR FROM
THE EASTERN SLOPES OF THE BLUE RIDGE INTO THE PIEDMONT SECTIONS
IN VIRGINIA.

* TIMING…INTO THE AFTERNOON.

* IMPACTS…UNTREATED ROADS WILL BECOME HAZARDOUS FOR TRAVEL.
TREES AND POWERLINES WILL ALSO GET COATED WITH ICE WHICH COULD
LEAD TO POWER OUTAGES.

* WINDS…EAST LESS THAN 10 MPH.

* TEMPERATURES…IN THE MID 20S TO AROUND 30. TEMPERATURES WILL
SLOWLY CLIMB INTO THE LOWER AND MID 30S THIS AFTERNOON.
