Subzero Temps Settle Over The Blue Ridge – Many Records Broken

Temps easily went below 0° overnight Thursday into Friday morning across the Blue Ridge. Our BRL-Trager Brothers weather station at RVCC in Nelson County went to -7.5° overnight for a low and on the mountain a sister station to our Nature Foundation station (down due to unit failure) show -10 as theo vernight low there. Many records will be shattered with this round of cold.

The coldest weather of the 2014-2015 winter season arrived Thursday night into Friday morning across the Central Virginia Blue Ridge. Overnight temps at our BRL-Trager Brothers Weather Station at The Rockfish Valley Community Center dropped to -8° by early Friday morning. On the mountain at Wintergreen the temps reached an overnight low of -10° around the 3500′ mark. Many records dating back to 1896 were broken. The normal high for this time of the year in February is 50° and the normal overnight low is 28°.

To add insult to injury, more winter weather is on the way with another round of snow, sleet, then freezing rain to hit starting Saturday morning.
