Wintergreen
Nelson County, VA
Within the past few days Wintergreen Fire & Rescue gained the prestigious honor of being named Championship Rescue Team in the Commonwealth of Virginia. “A few of our staff traveled to the beach to test their skills against other agencies from all across Virginia,” WF&R Chief Curtis Sheets tells NCL. They initially started competing 4 years ago to see how their technical rescue team (rope rescue) stacked up. Just a few years ago somebody came up with the idea of competing in virtually every contest offered while they were in the neighborhood.
“Regardless, the primary goal has always been the rope team and this is why its especially exciting to be able to say we now have the Championship Rescue Team in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Additionally our vehicle rescue team placed third and Mike Riddle placed seventh in the EVOC Instructors competition,” Chief Sheets continued.
Equipment was also judged with their Squad 1, Medic 176, and Car 3 each earning trophies.
Every six years it’s WF&R’s turn to host a district competition. That will take place in 2013. “We will be hosting the fourth quarter meet in late October. We will need every one’s help when the time comes,” Cheif Sheets adds.
Congrats to everyone at WF&R!
