Following a membership vote on Sunday, June 24, Wintergreen Resort is is on track to move forward in a merger with James C. Justice Companies, a West Virginia company that also owns the Greenbrier Resort (White Sulphur Springs, WV) and the Resort at Glade Springs (Daniels, WV).
“I was really pleased with the vote,” said Justice Cos CEO Jim Justice, adding that he was happy with the fact that Wintergreen Members were taking an active role in the sale of the resort. “It was a good day; I was pleased with the opportunity to meet a lot of people. I think there are some great things that can be done in Nelson.”
Justice said he was drawn to to Wintergreen for both business – he thinks there are ways for the other Justice Co resorts to work with Wintergreen – and personal reasons.
“It’s one of the last places that I played golf with my dad,” said Jim, who played golf for the University of Tennessee and was the captain of the team at Marshall University. “We played there in a tournament. We played both courses and I honestly thought their mountain course was one of the most beautiful courses I’ve ever played and I’ve played a lot of golf.”
[…] has sold a couple of times in the last decade. In 2012 Jim Justice, now Governor Jim Justice of West Virginia, bought the resort as a questionable financial future loomed when membership infusions couldn’t keep it going. […]
