FOR MOST OF MARYLAND…NORTHERN AND CENTRAL VIRGINIA…AND EASTERN
WEST VIRGINIA…
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN STERLING VIRGINIA HAS ISSUED A
FIRE WEATHER WATCH FOR GUSTY WIND AND LOW HUMIDITY…WHICH IS IN
EFFECT FROM TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH TUESDAY EVENING.
HUMIDITY LESS THAN 30 PERCENT AND SUSTAINED WINDS OVER 20 MPH ARE
OCCURRING THIS MORNING. THIS WILL CONTINUE INTO THE AFTERNOON AND
EVENING BEFORE TAPERING OFF TONIGHT. MORE GUSTY WINDS ARE LIKELY
TUESDAY. HUMIDITY MAY BE A LITTLE HIGHER TUESDAY…BUT ELEVATED
FIRE SPREAD DANGER MAY CONTINUE TO EXIST.
* AFTERNOON MINIMUM HUMIDITY…20 TO 30 PERCENT.
* WINDS…WEST 15 TO 25 MPH. GUSTS TO 35 MPH ARE POSSIBLE THIS
AFTERNOON AND EVENING. LIGHTER WINDS ARE EXPECTED OVERNIGHT.
* FUEL MOISTURE…5 TO 8 PERCENT ACROSS THE ALLEGHENY HIGHLANDS
AND 3 TO 6 PERCENT ELSEWHERE.
* IMPACTS…FIRE DANGER IS ELEVATED DUE TO DRY CONDITIONS ALONG
WITH GUSTY WINDS. THE POTENTIAL WILL BE HIGH FOR RAPID SPREAD
OF ANY UNCONTROLLED BRUSH OR WILDLAND FIRES.

A RED FLAG WARNING MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS
ARE OCCURRING NOW. A COMBINATION OF STRONG WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE
HUMIDITY WILL CREATE RAPID FIRE GROWTH POTENTIAL.
A FIRE WEATHER WATCH MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS
