Our Muddy Shoes story about all of the leftover shoes from Tough Mudder at Wintergreen ran in the December 2011 issue. In that piece we told you about Darrell Stevens in Beech Grove and his project to clean up the shoes, sell them and then donate the money to the Salvation Army.

“Thank you for running a story about the shoe project that my husband, Darrell; and I recently completed. Your article helped to spark a little more interest, as well as Channel 29 in Charlottesville. a total of $580 was raised and given to Salvation Army in Waynesboro, as well as about 85 pairs of shoes,”

Lelia Stevens told us in an email.
