Event Details:

Artistic Abandon, a new endeavor that combines friends, food, your favorite beverage, and fantastic art instruction, will hold a fundraiser to help Hope’s Legacy Equine Rescue, Inc., a foster based equine rescue serving Virginia. On January 15th at 1pm, artist Emily Page will walk everyone at the event step-by-step through creating his or her own version of the Artistic Abandon painting, She-Neigh-Neigh, in roughly a 2 hour period. The cost is $40 to attend, snacks and beverages will be provided, and children ages 10 and up are welcome. 25% of the $40 fee will be donated to Hope’s Legacy Equine Rescue.
Hope’s Legacy Equine Rescue, Inc., (HLER) is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) corporation located in central Virginia. They are an all-breed rescue working to save equines from a variety of situations including, but not limited to: abuse, abandonment, neglect, slaughter or whose owners can no longer care for them. HLER provides equine rescue regardless of age or disability with the goal of rehabilitating and placing rescued equines in adoptive homes.
Page grew up horseback riding, and worked with HLER’s executive director, Maya Proulx, at a stable approximately 13 years ago. Having recently returned to Virginia, Page has recommenced horseback riding and ran into Proulx while Proulx was out searching for several loose horses reported to be in the area. “Maya was so concerned for the safety of those horses. I was thrilled to see her taking on such a daunting project as a horse rescue. The logistics involved with rehabilitating horses are tough and require a lot of money for things like food and veterinary care. It can take many months to get a horse healthy and happy and then find an adoptive home for it – especially when there is a background of neglect or abuse,” said Page.
“As an artist and now new business owner,” said Page, “I don’t have the extra money I’d like in order to donate to organizations like HLER. But this winter is shaping up to be as cold as last winter, and I know HLER is going to need even more money for feed, hay, and blankets. Throwing one of our art parties is a great way to give money, but it will also remind people year-round of HLER when they look at the painting they created and took home with them. We are, of course, doing a painting of a horse for this event!”
Artistic Abandon’s parties are as much about having fun as they are about learning to paint. Page starts with a blank canvas just like everyone at the party, then she breaks down the painting chosen for the event so that even someone who has never painted before comes away with a finished piece. At Artistic Abandon, they emphasize letting go and having fun and enjoying the company around you while you tap into the inner artist you may not have known you have. In addition to fundraisers, Artistic Abandon throws private parties both in peoples’ homes and offices and at their own Nelson County location, 8350 Faber Road, Faber, VA 22938, about 25 minutes south of Charlottesville. They also host parties that are open to the public, including Family Fun Days where the whole family is encouraged to come out to paint.
Art parties are ideal for anyone who has wanted to try painting, but cannot commit to several weeks of classes. They are also a great way to shake up the average dinner party, holiday party, bridal shower, fundraiser, family reunion, office party, team building event, sorority party, red hat group meeting, child’s birthday party, girl scout or boy scout meeting, or just about any other event you can think of!
Prices for both private and public events vary depending on the painting you choose, but generally range from $25 – $40 per attendee. You can choose from Artistic Abandon’s selection of paintings, or they can create a painting specifically tailored to the theme of your event.
