Nelson County, Virginia
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for areas along and west of The Blue Ridge Parkway. Though the advisory area does not technically include Nelson County, it does generally include areas near the parkway in the highers elevations such as Wintergreen, Love and Montebello. An area of precipitation will move into the area overnight. Temps in some locations will be at or near the freezing mark temporarily allowing for the possibility of light freezing rain. Around dusk Saturday evening, the temperature at our Wintergreen Nature Foundation Weather Station was at 31° and falling. However, temperatures will begin rising in the late overnight hours as an area of warmer air works in. So, there is a good chance that any frozen precipitation would be brief, then change back to rain or at least sleet.

Though counties just east of the BRP are not in the technical advisory area. Conditions will be closely monitored for those counties immediately bordering the eastern slopes of the parkway for a possible advisory later tonight if conditions warrant.

On Sunday we may begin as rain but will probably see a change over to a mixed bag of rain and snow, perhaps ending as all snow later in the day as colder air works in.

Brutally cold temperatures are on the way for the first half of next week!

We’ll keep you posted!
