Nelson County, Virginia

Once a year volunteers with Nelson’s fire and rescue agencies are officially thanked for their help. The 2010 Nelson County Volunteer Appreciation Day was hosted by Wintergreen Fire and Rescue at Lake Monacan in Stoney Creek. It’s a chance for the county to say thank you to all of the volunteers who help staff the departments throughout the year. The Nelson County Board of Supervisors funds the event each year.

In addition to the day of fun, helicopters from three different air emergency services landed at the volunteer day. Two of the three choppers landed on the dam seen here at Lake Monacan.

All of the volunteers enjoyed a fantastic grilled meal prepared by members of Wintergreen Fire & Rescue. The food was paid for by funds provided by The Nelson BOS.
