Mother Nature has been perfect for the start of the Labor Day weekend. Saturday was a fantastic day filled with all sorts of fun events across Nelson County. Down at Wintergreen Winery, the annual Romp, Stomp and Chomp got underway with afternoon temps in the upper 70’s to near 80°. Didn’t make it on Saturday? Not to worry, they do it all again on Sunday.
Head up about 3000 feet or so to Wintergreen Resort and the cool mountain air was a perfect setting the the 2010 International Wine Festival put on by Wintergreen Performing Arts. Over 50 wines from Australia, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, South Africa, California, and, of course, Virginia were on hand for the tasting! WPA’s Oktoberfest will be held later this month on September 25th.
Lots of other events will be going on Sunday and Monday including the annual Montebello Community Market Day, just off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. It starts at 10AM. The event includes bargains at the flea market, blueberry cobbler at the bake sale, and unique arts & crafts for early Christmas shopping. Fire & rescue equipment on display with surprise landing of evacuation helicopter. The event is a benefit for the Montebello Vol. Fire & Rescue Co.
Head north up the parkway from Montebello and the folks at Humpback Rocks Mountaintop farm will be are having bluegrass and gospel starting at 2PM. Join Park Rangers at this re-created Appalachian farm for traditional activities and a concert by the MOUNTAIN MESSENGERS. That’s milepost 5.8 on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
