According to information released by the Nelson County Sheriff’s Department, a 48 year old female was found face down in the water in Arrington near Cedar Creek Road. “Shirley L. Clark 48 of Chesterfield was found face down in the water by her husband. I was notified around 11:44 AM, says Nelson Sheriff, David Brooks
According to to other information NCL obtained from additional sources, Ms. Clark, a part time resident of Wintergreen, had gone canoeing or kayaking earlier in the day and when she didn’t return to designated pickup point her husband became suspicious. Ms. Clark was eventually located by her husband face down in the water . CPR was started while he waited on rescue crews to gather at the scene.

Sheriff Brooks says the body has been taken to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy, but no foul play is suspected.
The information reported in your article is not correct. My best friend Robert Clark and his wife were getting ready to paddle their canoe together as they had done many times before. Robert had dropped Shirley off at Rucker run on the Tye River with the canoe and gear and then driven to Wingina to leave the car. Then he rode his scooter back up to the put-in. This way they only need one car for shuttle. Again this procedure had been done on many trips before. When Robert got back from wingina and ready to go down-river, thats when he found shirley and called 911.
Thanks for providing additional info Mr. Holt. While we make every attempt to be totally accurate, preliminary information is almost always inaccurate to some degree. Obviously our emergency services sources didn’t have some of the total facts at the time of the story , but rather the general story correct. Regardless, our sincerest sympathies go out to Mr. Clark. A terrible tragedy.
As someone who used to work for Robert and his wife, I would just like to send my condolences. RIP Mrs.Shirley.
