The first half of the Memorial Weekend started off with low clouds and very little sunshine. If you were on the mountain Saturday, a lot of the morning and early afternoon was spent in the clouds. By mid-afternoon the clouds broke and the sun came out! Regardless of the weather, lots of activities took place Saturday with even more Sunday. The weather will feel a lot like summer Sunday and Monday with temps in the lower 90’s with a return of summertime humidity.

Sunday Wintergreen Performing Arts will hold their annual Festival of Wine And Food from noon until 5:30PM.

Later in the day, commemorating the true meaning for this holiday weekend, American Legion Post 17 and V.F.W. Post 7701 will hold a Memorial Day Remembrance in Lovingston at 3PM on the Veterans Memorial Field of Nelson County High School.

There’s also a long list of other activities going on Sunday.

-Wintergreen Winery continues their Wine Into Summer Celebration

-Bluegrass music at Humpback Rocks Mountain Farm on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

-Blue Mountain Brewery in Afton will have live music on the patio.

-The Jan Smith Trio will be playing at Devil’s Backbone Brewing in Roseland (at the intersection of 664 & 151)

Have a happy and safe remainder of the Memorial Holiday.

And let’s remember why this holiday is actually celebrated!

  1. No mention of the A.C.S. benefit car show, auction, etc… that was at Rockfish V.F.D. I was there and it was a wonderful community event with something for adults and children both.

  2. I am a member of the ACS Auction committee and we appreciate the support of the people that attended the benefit as well as the article that NCL magazine published in the May issue. We were blessed with a wonderful day and with lots of people there to enjoy the many activities provided. We are planning another event next May! A huge thanks to everyone that contributed to the event whether it be volunteering, donations or attending!
