Montebello
Nelson County, Virginia
After months delaying the grand opening due to weather, The Montebello Nature Trail was officially dedicated and opened Wednesday afternoon. It was to have originally opened back in November 2009.
This .4 mile trail is on hatchery property and has a diversity of native (& non-native) trees, wildflowers, ferns, birds & other wildlife. The trail is a cooperative effort between the Virginia Department of Game & Inland Fisheries (DGIF) and Friends of the Montebello Fish Hatchery. The fish culture station has always been a popular site for appreciating nature. In 2005 it was designated as a birding site on the Jefferson Loop of the Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail. The Nature Trail will expand the opportunity to view wildlife and native trees and plants.
The Montebello Fish Hatchery is located at the intersection of Route 56 & 690 in Nelson County.
