The skies were full sunshine with just a tiny chill in the air as the 2010 Rockfish Valley Kite Flying Festival kicked off Saturday morning in the big field on Glenthorne Loop. It’s the second year in a row the event has been held. Nelson County Life Magazine was this year’s media sponsor.

As part of the day's entertainment, The Hodge Family of Nelson County put on juggling acts of all kinds!

Though the skies were clear, the winds were light at times, but not enough to keep these kites down!

The second annual ROCKFISH VALLEY KITE FLYING FESTIVAL was held on APRIL 11, 2009 from 10:00 am, until 3:00 pm at SPRUCE CREEK PARK in Nellysford Virginia. The Park lies at the South end of the Rockfish Valley, a scenic valley on the east side of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Central Virginia. The skies were full sunshine with just a tiny chill in the air. The winds were light at times, but not enough to keep the kites down! The event was free and open to the public and about 250 person attended. Professionals flyers included Laura and Stoney Stonestreet, Will Smoot and Burk May.

The day’s entertainment included The Hodge Family Jugglers of Nelson County who put on juggling acts of all kinds! Local non profits including the Almost Home Pet Adoption Center and Rockfish Sanctuary and other vendors also participated. The Rockfish Valley Foundation invited everyone to place Post Its on the big red truck with a wish for the environment of Nelson County. A story written by Fred Abbey from those will be posted on its website: http://www.rockfishvalley.org.
