Nelson County Sheriff, David Brooks, says the search for a wanted man in the south end of the county has been called off early Sunday afternoon. “We’ve been looking for Jason Todd Cash, a white male in his mid 30’s who ran from one of our officers after he stopped him for a traffic violation Sunday morning,” Sheriff Brooks tells NCL.

Sheriff Brooks says since they know who the suspect is and have the car he was driving impounded, they will be issuing felony warrants for Cash and continue their hunt. Heavy fog and rain limited the search which extended along the Tye River and in the vicinity of Black Eagle Farm in Piney River. By 12:30PM the search was called off once the trail had become cold.

“He’ll be charged with felony eluding police, felony assault, felony assault with a vehicle, felony property damage, and driving on a revoked license,” Sheriff Brooks continued. The sheriff called later in the afternoon to say that an attempted murder to a police office charge had also been added to the list.

Cash’s last known address was in the Lowesville area, but Sheriff Brooks says they cannot be exactly sure where Cash is living now since the car he was driving was registered in Buckingham County.

The Nelson County Sheriff, his deputies, and a member of the Virginia State Police are searching for a man this hour who bailed from his car after being stopped by a Nelson County deputy Sunday morning on a traffic stop. “The deputy stopped him on 29 South not too far from Saunders’ Construction company near the old motel. The person got out of the car and ran behind the motel into a wooded area,” says Nelson County Sheriff, David Brooks.

Sheriff Brooks went on to say that officers know who the suspect is, and was recently released from the department of corrections, though the sheriff believes he was not in jail for a violent crime.

The search area had expanded to include portions of Route 56 West from U.S. 29 around noon. Search dogs from the VSP and other agencies were also being brought in to assist in the search.

More as we have it.
