While temps in the valley regions of Nelson County have not hit the freezing mark over the past 24 hours, that’s a different story in the higher elevations in places such as Wintergreen, Love and Montebello. A1/4 to 1/2″ coating of ice is covering trees and power lines up there. Kim Smith up at Wintergreen Real Estate’s mountain office sent us the above photo showing the tree bending over under the weight of the ice.
Travel down from Devil’s Knob just a bit toward the Mountain Inn and the story is pretty much the same. Our Paul Purpura grabbed some random shots of the ice covering trees there. Cold!! Brrrrr!
Reports from Montebello sent to our via our Facebook page say it’s very icy there as well!
A Winter Storm Warning remained in effect Friday morning, set to expire at 1PM in the afternoon.
Here on top of Wintergreen, it took a while to chip the cars out this morning — at least 1/2″ of ice. Traffic seems to be moving around okay — consistent with that Wintergreen PD told me earlier this morning.
