A major winter storm continues taking shape and predicted to affect much of Central Virginia starting later today and continuing into Saturday night. A Winter Storm Watch will begin for Nelson and many counties to the north on Friday afternoon and continuing into Saturday night. Amounts of 5 inches or more are possible in the watch areas.

* ACCUMULATIONS…HEAVY SNOW WITH ACCUMULATIONS GREATER THAN 5
INCHES.

* TIMING…SNOW WILL BEGIN FRIDAY EVENING AND WILL CONTINUE
THROUGH LATE SATURDAY NIGHT.

* TEMPERATURES…UPPER 20S TO LOWER 30S THROUGH THE EVENT.

* WINDS…10 TO 15 MPH THROUGH THE EVENT. GUSTY WINDS UP TO 25
MPH ON SUNDAY.

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT
SNOW THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL. CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST
FORECASTS.

Just to our south, Amherst County and points south will be under a Winter Storm Warning starting at noon Friday and continuing until late Saturday night. In the warning area, snow amounts of a foot are possible.
