Thanks to ABC-13 WSET in Lynchburg for this info. Their story reads:
A small earth quake has been reported in Nelson and Amherst Counties. Our newsroom phone has been ringing off the hook with people saying they felt earth shook and heard a loud boom around 5:30 p.m. Virginia Tech seismological observatory confirmed that it was a small, possibly,
2.52.7 magnitude earthquake. We will bring you more details as they become available.
Many phone calls were received and we here at NCL have had numerous posts to our Facebook page reporting the minor quake.
More updates as we know.
Good Job on reporting local breaking news. When I got home, Joan asked me about the loud noise that shook the house. I haven’t gained that much weight that she should notice as I approach from 100 feet away. NCL online makes a difference for people interested in knowing more about what is happening right now.
My granddaughter from Green County call just now, to ask about the quake. Neither Jane or I felt or heard it– I was on the deck grilling burger at the time (5:30) and I think I would have felt it.
And Greg Kelly has only gained a few pounds….
Must have been in southern Nelson County….?
Felt it here in Freshwater Cove. Though dad was blaring the TV too loud for a minute, until i recieved 6 texts from friends asking if we just had an earthquake.
Happened to be in a tree stand hunting 30′ feet up must be a good spot to feel the quake no question what hapened. cool.
I was on my deck and I heard what I thought was three very loud, low frequency, gun shots which I thought echoed off the mountain. I never heard that echo with normal hunting sounds. Was this the quake?
