Wintergreen Resort
Nelson County, Virginia

We’ve been talking about the relentless rain falling across Virginia thanks to what’s left of Ida and a newly developed low off of the east coast.

Down below it’s rain, but up in the higher elevations of Nelson County, it was snow and freezing rain. Our Paul Purpura grabbed these shots of the light winter precip that fell. This is the second wintry mix of the 2009 fall season thus far.

Though no real problems were encountered from the wintry mix, temps at or just below freezing created the scenario for frozen precip.

Though, John Taylor up on Devils Knob (roughly 3500′) commented to our site Thursday morning that they got a pretty good snow, especially for mid November. “he mountain top roads here were snow-covered above the Wintergreen Overlook. Road crews were out working but mother nature was going full steam at that point. My “guess” from the driver’s seat is that around the Wintergarden and Nature Foundation an inch or more had fallen. Heading further west to Laurel Springs Drive, it looked to me more like 2-4 inches (unscientific). On Laurel Springs drive there definitely as enough snow to plow.” No question John we have some wacky weather going on!

Look for rainy and sometimes light wintry conditions above 3000 feet to continue throughout much of Thursday.
