For over 3 decades people anxiously await the annual Flippin-Seaman Apple Butter Makin’ Festival in Tyro, Virginia. That’s on the Crabtree Falls Highway on the way up to Montebello. The festival is held on two dates in October. The first this year was October 3rd, the next date will be later in the month on Saturday October 17th from 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
All kinds of activities take place in addition to the apple butter making. The festival has become a tradition for families from all over the region.

I was there yesterday with my 2 year old grandaughter. She had so much fun doing the kids crafts, picking pumpkins and gourds in the pumpkin patch. We had lunch and watched them make apple butter and we tasted different varieties of apples. It was such a fun day I’m thinking about going back on October 17th. And I wouldn’t have known about the festival if I hadn’t read it in Nelson Magazine. Thanks for what you do!!
