Nelson County, Virginia
A very warm and moist airmass currently in place over Nelson and Central Virginia is setting the stage for numerous showers and thunderstorms to develop this afternoon and evening. The Storm Prediction Center has this area in the slight risk for severe storms and perhaps an isolated tornado. Though this doesn’t mean everyone will see severe weather or heavy rain, it does mean the possibility is greater than a typical August afternoon.
CANCELED! A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has also been issued for Nelson as of early afternoon running until 9 PM EDT tonight. CANCELED!
The local NWS office also mentions this threat in the their daily hazardous weather outlook.
Improving weather is on the way by the second half of the weekend, probably beginning by the afternoon hours on Saturday as a frontal boundary tries to move east of the Blue Ridge toward the shore.
Hurricane Bill, though not a direct threat to our area, is slowing the progression of systems moving east out of our area. Once he advances north, systems will clear the area quickly.
More updates later today if needed.
