The Virginia Festival of the Book, held each year in Charlottesville, brings writers and readers together for a five-day celebration of the literary arts. This year the celebration begins March 18 and runs through March 22. A vast array of free events featuring authors and publishers from around the world are scheduled and can be found at www.vabook.org. Sharing the spotlight will be local authors from the Blue Ridge Writers Chapter of the Virginia Writers Club.
On Thursday, March 19 at 10 AM in the Central Jefferson-Madison Regional Library on 201 E. Market St. in Charlottesville, the Blue Ridge Writers will discuss and launch their newly published anthology (Blue Ridge Anthology 2009, ISBN 9780979020599) at a Festival program entitled, “Blue Ridge Anthology: Celebrating Central Virginia Writers.” This program will feature authors Jack Trammell, Deborah Prum, Sharon Leiter, Coy Barefoot, Rick Britton and Gary Kessler discussing the anthology project and their writing experiences. Then, on Saturday, March 21 from 9 AM to 4 PM in the Charlottesville Omni, the Blue Ridge Writers will host a “Meet & Mingle” event in the Montpelier Room to showcase their published works and introduce visitors to one of Virginia’s oldest writing clubs – the Virginia Writers Club, founded in 1918 by James Branch Cabell.
The Blue Ridge Writers Chapter VWC serves aspiring and seasoned writers in the city of Charlottesville and counties of Albemarle, Augusta, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Madison, Nelson and Orange. Their events can be found at www.blueridgewriters.org. For more information, contact: Jack Trammell, President (540) 894-9034; jtrammel@rmc.edu.
