Roseland / Beech Grove
Nelson County, Virginia
Members of The Wintergreen Wine Club recently had and Iberian Wine Dinner (Spanish and Portuguese influenced food) at Devils Backbone Brewery in Nelson County at the foot of Wintergreen Mountain. The wine club was formed a little over 10 years ago, with 8 to 9 dinners a year.
The club’s president, Stu Harvey, says though many times they will taste Virginia wines they will often sample others from around the world. Harvey moved to Virginia around 13 years ago and started the club not long after that.
The meal itself was superb, including potato and chorizo empanada with Bodegas Olvena Cabernet Sauvignon Crianza, Spanish Country Fried Rabbit with Rentas de Fincas Rioja Reserva. Bread Pudding & Walnut Brittle with Bodegas Toro Albala Pedro Ximenez Grand Reserve 1979. A ‘reserve’ tasting showcasing wines of distinction.
As part of the evening, Eric Miller, co-owner of Romero and Miller Wine Searchers/Importers was a guest speaker to discuss the wines served.
