The Nelson County Sheriff’s Department is asking residents to be extra careful when allowing strangers into their home.
A white male posing as a Dawn dish detergent salesman approached a woman at her home in the Lovingston area asking her to participate in a survey that could take an hour to complete. The woman did not let him in and the man left in a dark blue SUV; two other people appeared to be in the vehicle.
On Thursday, in nearby Buckingham County, a man claiming to sell Glade air fresheners stabbed a woman in her home after she told him she was not interested. The attacker kicked the door in, police say, and may have been driving a dark colored SUV, possible a Chevy Suburban or Tahoe.
Anyone with information is asked to call the NCSD at 434-263-7050.
I have information if you would like to pass this along. It happened last year just before Christmas. It was the weekend and I was home with my wife and daughter. I had a young white male between the ages of 18 and 26 (college aged) weighing 160 lbs with blond hair cut short. He was scrawny but not skinny. He asked if he could display an air freshener, that he will get paid if he displays I don’t have to purchase anything. Two other people were in the vehicle which was a dark blue Suburban I believe. I told him I wasn’t interested and he was very persistent. So I pretty much escorted him back to the vehicles and asked for a contact card. The driver was a white female between the ages of 19 and 26 weighing 110lbs with blond hair with a tint of red and the passenger was a white male between the ages of 19 and 26 weighing 190 lbs. I asked a lot of questions and she informed me that they are from Lynchburg. I can remember the first guys face pretty well, the other two are tougher but if I saw them I would know. If I need to be contacted I can give a phone number just let me know.
A similar incident just occured (week of November 9, 2009) in my neighborhood (between Afton and Greenwood, near the old Rockfish Fire Station). I did not directly witness the attempt but several of my neighbors were approached; several did not answer their dorrs. One neighbor opened her door, saw the Glade can, recalled these earlier reports and notified the Sheriff’s office. It seems the individuals have decided to give this another try.
