…Winter Storm Watch is cancelled…

The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has cancelled
the Winter Storm Watch.

Temperatures are expected to be close to…but above freezing when
rain reaches the area after midnight and persisting through the
day Tuesday. While a mix of rain and sleet is anticipated during
Tuesday…freezing rain is not expected to be a concern.

As we discuss in Tommy’s Weather today, an approaching winter storm system may bring a mix of wintry weather to the region beginning overnight tonight. (audio version available to your right by hitting play) The NWS out of the D.C. / Sterling office issued a Winter Storm Watch that begins Tuesday morning and continues into Wednesday. There is great deal of uncertainty with this storm as of Monday morning’s forecast, but it has the potential to be a a significant icing event, in particular above 2000 feet in the mountainous areas of Nelson County.

A WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY MORNING
THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING.

LOW PRESSURE DEVELOPING ACROSS THE TENNESSEE VALLEY TUESDAY WILL
TRACK NORTH INTO NEW ENGLAND TUESDAY NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY. THIS LOW WILL
DRAW MOISTURE INTO THE MID ATLANTIC. WITH COLD AIR IN PLACE CLOSE TO
THE SURFACE…WINTRY PRECIPITATION IN THE FORM OF SLEET AND
FREEZING RAIN IS EXPECTED.

THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SLEET AND…OR
FREEZING RAIN. THIS INCLUDES THE POSSIBILITY OF A QUARTER INCH OR
MORE OF ICE ACROSS THE WATCH AREA. PREPARATIONS SHOULD BE MADE NOW
FOR A POTENTIALLY HIGH IMPACT WINTER WEATHER EVENT TUESDAY THROUGH
EARLY WEDNESDAY.

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT
SLEET OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL. CONTINUE TO
MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS.
