We have a request into CVEC for information about the outage areas, but have not received a reply as of our request. Their web page does not have any updated information regarding outages as of this post.

We’ll pass along anything we know as soon as we know!

Updated 11:00 AM EST 12.31.08
Many areas that we can confirm, are without power in the Greenfield, Martins Store area. We are currently on standby generator power here at NCL.

We know fire crews are also working a brush fire now on Blundell Hollow Road in Afton. The high winds, obviously, are making the fire fighting very difficult. Other scattered brush fires in adjoining counties are also breaking out.

If you have power and can see our site, let us know what areas of the county you know to be without power by dropping a comment below.

We’ll update as we can!

Previous post:
Over the past several hours gusty northwesterly winds have moved into Central Virginia. Our NCL-TWNF station at Wintergreen has recorded gusts well in excess of 100 MPH during the morning on Devil’s Knob at 3500 feet. Sustained winds up there have been in the 40-60 MPH range from time to time.

The High Wind Warning is in effect until 6 PM this evening when the winds, though gusty, are expected to die down as the evening wears on.

Here’s the details from the NWS:
