HIGHER ELEVATIONS TODAY. TRAVEL IS EXPECTED TO BE HAZARDOUS ABOVE
1500 FEET. ICE ACCUMULATIONS WILL BE LESS THAN A QUARTER INCH AT
THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW…SLEET…OR

A WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FOR THE MOUNTAINS. UP TO A QUARTER
INCH OF ICE AND 2 TO 4 INCHES OF SNOW ARE POSSIBLE THROUGH TONIGHT
AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT ALONG THE ALLEGHENY FRONT
AS A COLD AIR MOVES INTO THE REGION. FREEZING RAIN…MIXED WITH
SLEET…IS EXPECTED. ICE ACCUMULATIONS UNDER ONE TENTH INCH WILL BE
POSSIBLE.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY

A MIX OF SNOW…SLEET…AND FREEZING RAIN WILL BE POSSIBLE WEST OF
THE BLUE RIDGE AS WELL AS IN THE CATOCTINS AND CENTRAL MARYLAND
THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN STERLING VIRGINIA HAS ISSUED A
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR MIXED WINTER PRECIPITATION…WHICH IS
IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 11 AM EST WEDNESDAY. THE
WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

A COLD FRONT MOVING THROUGH THE REGION WILL BRING A MUCH COLDER
AIRMASS INTO THE AREA…AND AREAS OF RAIN ARE EXPECTED TO CHANGE
TO SNOW…SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN TODAY. TRAVEL WILL BECOME

DEEP SOUTHWEST FLOW OVERTOP THIS COLD AIR WILL CAUSE PERIODS OF
MAINLY LIGHT PRECIPITATION THROUGH TONIGHT. THIS WILL RESULT IN
THE RAIN BECOMING MIXED WITH SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN ACROSS THE
GREENBRIER VALLEY AND VIRGINIA HIGHLANDS TODAY…AND OVER THE

FROM 4 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 6 AM EST WEDNESDAY.

RAIN WILL BECOME MIXED WITH SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN LATER THIS
AFTERNOON AND THEN CONTINUE OVERNIGHT. ALTHOUGH LITTLE SLEET
ACCUMULATION IS EXPECTED…A LIGHT COATING OF ICE COULD OCCUR
MAINLY ON ELEVATED SURFACES ESPECIALLY IN THE DEEPER VALLEYS AND
ALONG THE BLUE RIDGE TONIGHT.
