The Gold Award is the highest award in Girl Scouts. A national award, with national standards for girls 14-18 years old), it represents girls’ time, leadership, creativity and effort contributed to making their community better. To earn this award, Meredith Carter and Rebecca Carter created a packet, “Welcome to Nelson County” to promote tourism. The packet contains information about various places in Nelson County and games and puzzles with each site description. Available at the Visitors Center, it has pockets to put brochures and comes with a patch embroidered with the new Nelson County Logo to celebrate the completion of the activities. Nelson County businesses provided the sponsorship for the initial printing of the packets. The cost of the packet and patch is $3.00 to provide funds for replacements in the future.

Meredith and Rebecca presented the project to the Board of Supervisors on December 9, 2008, followed by placement at the Visitor’s Center. The ceremony recognizing their achievement is scheduled for February 2009.

Dakota Truslow and Madison Carter earned their Silver Award for assisting with the project. The Silver Award (earned by girls 11-14 years old) helps girls build skills, explore careers, gain leadership skills, and make a commitment to self-improvement.

Congrats!
