Jazz Giants Quartet Performance to Benefit RVCC
An award-winning jazz quartet, The Jazz Giants, will be performing at the Rockfish Valley Community Center (RVCC) in Nellysford, Nelson County, on Saturday, November 8. The performance will highlight the 9th Annual RVCC Evening of Jazz and Silent Auction, the Center’s major fundraiser of the year.
The evening program will include music, food and spirits, and the auction. The menu includes hors d’oeuvres and dinner prepared by RVCC’s own chef/caterer Claudia Gibson. A cash bar will again offer various Nelson County wines and beer.
The Silent Auction will feature art, antiques and services from supporting individuals and businesses, as well “The Best from the Chest” from the RVCC Treasure Chest Thrift Shop. All proceeds benefit RVCC’s general fund.
The Jazz Giants members include the all-star lineup of Robert Jospé, George Melvin, Royce Campbell and Hod O’Brian.
George Melvin has performed with the likes of Pearl Bailey, Miles Davis and Ray Charles, but at RVCC he’ll be accompanied by “Miss Lucy,” his Hammond B-3 organ.
Hod O’Brian is a masterful bop-based improviser who will bring his swinging be-bop piano style to the quartet.
Royce Campbell and his guitar have toured with Marvin Gaye and Henry Mancini, and in November will be playing the RVCC stage!
And Robert Jospe will top off the quartet with his own unique and distinctive style of jazz percussion.
The doors open at 5 PM for the auction, hors d’oeuvres and cash bar. The auction will be open from 5 to 7 PM, after which the evening’s all-star jazz quartet will begin their evening’s performance and dinner will be served. Adult ticket prices are $35 each and available in advance only. (Reservations are required.) Advance tickets are being sold at Ambrosia, Basic Necessities, Garden Trade, Spruce Creek Gallery and Valley Video, as well as at the RVCC office and the Treasure Chest.
The Rockfish Valley Community Center was established in 2000 to provide cultural, educational and recreational activities and resources to the area’s citizens. Housed in a reclaimed 1937 elementary school, RVCC is the home to the Rockfish Seniors program, the acclaimed Earl Hamner Jr. Theater, soccer and softball fields, a computer lab with high speed access, community-sponsored classes, studios for artists, and affordable space for meetings, conferences and celebrations. It’s a place where community happens!
