Celebrate the wonders of autumn! Explore the mysteries of changing leaves, meet live animals, make a treasure to keep, carve your holiday pumpkins, and enjoy a warming bowl of chili at the 1st Annual Wintergreen Chili Cook-Off.

1st Annual Wintergreen Chili Cook-Off
11am-1pm – $8 adults, $4 children under 10
What’s the perfect compliment to a day learning about Wintergreen’s fall changes? A simmering bowl of chili! TWNF will host the 1st Annual Wintergreen Chili Cook-Off during the Fall Foliage Festival. Taste the creations of the best cooks at Wintegreen and cast your vote to crown the first Wintergreen Chili Cook-Off champion. Admission fee includes cornbread, drinks, and chili. Voting ends at 12:30pm.

Signs of the Season
10am-noon – $3 members, $5 non-members
Join a Foundation naturalist for a hike through the autumn woods. Enjoy the beauty and explore the how’s and why’s of fall’s changing landscape.

Fall-Mobiles
10am-11am – $2
Enjoy the dangly, wiggly fun of a fall mobile. Build yours from autumn’s natural bounty or Halloween holiday shapes – either way you’ll love the look of your decorations in motion. Young naturalists, ages 4-12.

Pumpkin Carving
11am-noon – fee applies, to-be-determined
From traditional Jack-O-Lanterns to fancy pumpkin patterns, we have everything you need to get the whole family into the holiday spirit. Let your creative juices flow as you carve your Halloween pumpkins with us.

Fall Face-Painting
11am-1pm – $1 Show the world your season’s spirit with a fall design. Choose from many autumn drawings or start the Halloween season with a holiday display for all to see.

Animals in Autumn
1pm-2pm – $5 per person
Get up close and personal with live animals! The Wildlife Center of Virginia will introduce you to feathered, furry and scaly friends and discuss how different forest animals use the fall season to deal with the approach of winter.

Treat Bags
2pm-3pm – $3 per bag
Paint your own fall canvas bag. Whether you use it as a gift bag, a lunch box or trick-or-treat with it, this 10-inch tote will be a keepsake for years to come. Young naturalists, ages 4-10.

Basking in Fall’s Beauty
2pm-4pm – $3 members, $5 non-members
Nature Foundation Executive Director, Doug Coleman, leads the investigation into the reasons for autumn’s spectacular displays. Hike with him to bask in fall’s beauty and get the behind-the-scenes scoop on the season.

Search for the Season
3pm-4:30pm – $3 members, $5 non-members
Young naturalists, ages 6-12, will love this scavenger hunt for clues of fall’s arrival. We’ll hit the trail for fun and games that help us discover the reasons behind autumn’s glories.
