Before I get started for the weekend, want to remind you of a really neat day coming up next month on Saturday September 6th at the Rockfish Valley Community Center in Afton. Nelson County Life Magazine, RVCC and Crutchfield Electronics in Charlottesville have teamed up to bring their electronics recycle truck to RVCC from 9AM to 3 PM that Saturday. That’s the same day as the monthly pancake breakfast. Normally you’d have to drive over to their place in Charlottesville and pay a small fee to dispose of certain electronic items, but not this particular day! The great folks at Crutchfield have waived all of the fees for this one day event at RVCC. So you can bring anything from that old console television you’ve been wanting to get rid of to an old stereo, cell phones, an air conditioner, and lots more. You can click here to see an entire list of accepted items on the Crutchfield site, and remember to ignore the fees associated with the items for this particular event at RVCC on September 6th, because it’s free for this one day right here in Nelson County! This is a great way to recycle these old items and keep them from ending up in a landfill somewhere!

We’ll be reminding you more about this as we get closer to next month. Be sure to mark your calender!

-Want to remind you about several things happening this weekend:

Jan Smith of The Honeybirds will be playing at The Mark Addy Inn from 6:30 to 9:30 on Saturday night.

The Robin Wynn Band plays at Cardinal Point Winery from 5PM until 9 PM Saturday night

-And Kings of Swing play over at Veritas Winery and Vineyard Saturday night from 7PM to 11PM, as part of their Starry Nights event

Thursday wound up with some isolated locations in Nelson getting some rain, though it was very spotty. The north and western half of the county saw none and with few clouds in the afternoon, temps rose to the lower 90’s for afternoon highs, while eastern and southern sections were cooler in the mid 80’s.

Friday will more or less be sunny, with a tiny, tiny chance of a lone thunderstorm. The big news is lower temps and less humidity. The weekend is shaping up to be a fantastic one with afternoon highs in the 80’s and nighttime lows in the upper 50’s to near 60° in the valley and low and mid 50’s on the mountains.

The great weather lasts through the weekend on into next week when showers are possible again by Tuesday.

A quick reminder we are just about a month and a half away from the official start of Fall on September 22nd, so though we’ll see plenty of very hot days ahead, we’ll also start to see some subtle moderation in temperatures as we transition out of late summer into early Fall. Like those low 50’s on the mountains!
