As we have been telling you about, most recently on page 41 of the July ’08 issue, students in the foreign language group at Nelson County High School have been working hard to raise money for a trip to France in 2009. Friday was part of a big fundraiser to help the kids get there. A captain’s choice golf tournament was held in Clifford, just north of Amherst, at The Winton Country Club. “It cost about $4000.00 a kid,” says Sarah Ponton, the foreign language chair at the school.

In addition to Friday’s tournament, the students have been doing everything from selling t-shirts, to concessions, to peanuts to help raise money for some of the students that might have trouble coming up with the money to make the trip.

“It’s a great opportunity for these kids to get out of the country,” says Jenny McCarter who helped coordinate the tournament.
