Black Eagle Farm
Piney River, Virgina
Above, folks gather outside to hear about the newly opened Piney River Organics Farm. Tuesday, the plant held their official grand opening located at Black Eagle Farm.
Ralph Glatt, owner of Piney River Organics and Black Eagle Farm, explains how the chickens will eventually lay eggs in the highly automated facility.
The Black Eagle farm has been in the Glatt Family for over 20 years, but the farm itself dates back over 200 years. “We’re trying to promote the idea of the “traditional family farm.†The sense that we have everything. We will go into pig production as well this fall but we just can’t get everything done in one go,” says Ralph who already has hormone free sheep and cattle in a farm raised environment.
Left, William P. Dickinson, VA Deputy Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry, along with Ralph Glatt and his wife make it official by cutting the ribbon to the facility that will produce about 28,000 organically certified eggs per day.
People on Tuesday’s tour look over the automated egg conveyor room.
The facility is expected to be in operation next month.
