Updated 8:30 AM EDT : Tropical storm Humberto has briefly become a hurricane for the past several hours. So much for those fancy weather computers, and they want to tell us what’s going to happen in 20 years? Anyway, it will dump lots of rain along the coast and inland as far as north Mississippi. Models then have it hooking east with no threat to VA thus far.

Horse Ride in Afton

Afton horses

Wednesday certainly felt like fall for part of the day! Mild temperatures and low humidities made it really nice. A great afternoon to get out and take a ride on your horse, like these two above did in Afton. Last night was fall feeling as well with many 50’s overnight and even some upper 40’s in the outlying areas. Today will be another nice day before a cold front brings in a chance for showers Friday and Friday night. By the weekend we should clear out with mild cool weather for the weekend.

A couple of things to keep an eye on tropical depression / storm wise over the next several days. First, Tropical Storm Humberto is working from the gulf into Texas and Louisiana. Right now it’s no threat to us, but as you can see from the 5 day track it has general predictions to head east. I am not very concerned about this one, but if conditions were just right it could be kicked in our direction. It’s a long shot, but we’ll keep any eye out.
Projected 5 day path

I am a bit more interested right now in what’s become Tropical Depression #8 out in the Atlantic. We’ve been watching this low pressure area over the past several days and now it’s formed into a depression. It could actually reach hurricane strength in the next 3-4 days, though many factors have to come together for that to happen. I do think it will be a tropical storm today or tonight. Long range some other things have to come into play for it to form into a hurricane with any longevity. – I’ll keep you posted.
