Wreck Scene Wednesday evening along 151
Afton, Virginia
Wednesday was a really nice day across Central Virginia. Unfortunately this driver above didn’t have such a pleasant day. Folks driving along Route 151 around 5:30 PM saw fire departments and troopers working the wreck just north of Bland Wade Road. The scene was cleared by 7PM.
Temperatures peaked around 80 degrees for most areas below. Upon the mountains a tad cooler. NCL-The Wintergreen Nature Foundation recorded an afternoon high of 71 degrees at 2:13 PM. I was up there at the resort in the afternoon, it was very pleasant.
On the current surface map below, high pressure was parked over northern Virginia Thursday morning. That will keep skies sunny and any real weather systems away from us until tomorrow.
Current-Sat Surface Map
Below, on the National Forecast Map, throughout the day the high pressure meanders to the east over the Atlantic. That will start pulling more muggy feeling air in as we end the day. Plus a warm front to the south will move back north across our area overnight. By tomorrow a cold front approaches and moves through, chances for thunderstorms are back in the forecast by afternoon.
Today’s Forecast Map
Below, to our north and west a large severe weatrher outbreak is forecast today. The high pressure we talked about earlier keeps that away from us, but it will be a very active day in those areas indicated as high risk. Tornados there are pretty much certain.
